Benefits of a colour consultation by an interior designer
What is a colour consultation and how does the process work with Interior designers? Here is some clarity on exactly what a Colour Consult is and the value is of engaging an Interior Designer for your home.
Choosing colours for your interior and exterior is not easy! There are rules when using colour and there are practical and logical reasons when making selections. All principles of design are applicable to specifying colour in ones home - balance, proportion, shape, space, structure, pattern, texture, repetition and rhythm, and harmony can all be achieved with colour.
How to create successful colour schemes?
A good interior designer will do a thorough consult with you and ask you many questions about your style. They may ask to see your favourite clothes as often colours you wear are those you associate with in your home. They may ask for you to choose 10 items in your house that you love, as often these will be based around a colour scheme you affiliate with. They may ask you to look at various home images and focus on the colour in the pictures only.
After the consult the interior designer will have a clear picture of what colour scheme you associate with. It could be monochromatic (one colour using various shades), Achromatic (grey, white, black), Complimentary (colours from opposite side of colour wheel - think blue & orange), Clash (2 colours with one of them sitting to the left or right of it’s complement (think green and pink), or Triadic ( 3 colours located equal distances from each other on the colour wheel - think blue, yellow, red).

Once your colour scheme has been determined, your interior designer will start specifying exactly where to use the colour and to what proportions throughout your home. This is where their expertise comes to the fore.
